GetReal and where it fits

Campaign: GetReal - Stop Free Plastic Bags Campaign Report
Category: Follow Ups

GetReal has had a fantastic response and we are getting a lot of support and offers of assistance from individuals and organisations.

Questions have been raised by the GreenTeens in Nelson and others as to where GetReal fits in the busy landscape of anti free plastic bags campaigning and the greater effort to address waste and environmental issues in general.

At the moment this is what I am thinking:

  • We setup GetReal to try and focus the energy out there in many different places into one petition, pne action people could make which we could then use as a mandate to empower all campaigners and take to those who make the decisions that affect us all.
  • Big, big ups to Joshua, GreenTeens, The Golden Bay Bag Ladies and everybody. We are not wanting to step on toes. What we want to do is make it a national issue with one number we can put to it - ie xx,000 people want change on this issue.
  • We are in this for the long haul and we see plastic bags as the start of a rolling maul of campaigns to bring change to the way design and distribute products and packaging of all types. To be effective we need a membership base we can re-contact to support the next steps. Current web efforts did not seem to have this focus so we started GetReal.

I'll update this post later today, comments are much appreciated.
